Best time for Char Dham Yatra

The four temples open and close on dates announced each year. Many pilgrims prefer late spring or the period after the heaviest monsoon rains. Spring can be crowded; summer rain may bring landslides and road closures; autumn brings colder nights. Availability and safe travel conditions matter more than a single blanket ‘best month’.

The common sequence is Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath. Haridwar is a practical departure point, with overnight stops near Barkot, Uttarkashi, Guptkashi and Joshimath or Badrinath. Plan extra time for the walks from Janki Chatti and Gaurikund, and avoid relying on road distances alone.

Uttarakhand’s official Tourist Care portal says pilgrim registration is compulsory. Register each traveller for the appropriate destinations and dates, retain your confirmation, and carry identification. Check any separate vehicle, park or activity requirements for your exact route.
