Char Dham Yatra Route from Haridwar: Stops and Travel Planning

The customary order

Many road itineraries begin in Haridwar and travel west to east: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The sequence follows the mountain geography and helps avoid unnecessary backtracking. The exact overnight stops depend on road conditions, accommodation and the group’s pace.

Yamunotri and Gangotri legs

The Yamunotri approach uses a road transfer toward Janki Chatti followed by a walking route to the shrine. Gangotri is reached by road from the Uttarkashi side, subject to current access rules. Do not use a straight-line map distance to predict mountain driving time.

Kedarnath and Badrinath legs

Kedarnath requires a road transfer to the Gaurikund approach and a substantial uphill trek; current local transport arrangements and route rules should be checked before departure. Badrinath is reached by mountain road, usually via the Joshimath side. Weather can change both transfer and walking plans.

Registration and safety

Complete the required pilgrimage registration using the official Uttarakhand process, carry identity documents, and follow local guidance. Allow rest time, pack layers and rain protection, and avoid overloading each day with sightseeing.
